2021 Word for the Year: JOY
Do you choose a word for the year? A few years ago I chose a word that represents my view on life: Possibilities. I always feel that every day is a new chance to experience something amazing and each morning is a new opportunity full of possibilities. But for 2021, I am finally choosing a new phrase to represent my perspective. I’m choosing JOY!

2021 Word for the Year: JOY
In 2021, I am deciding that each day I will CHOOSE JOY! 2020 has been quite the year full of unexpected hiccups and detours. I can’t control what is happening around me, but I can choose each day to find the true JOY that comes when I have my focus set.
What is the difference between Joy and Happiness?
Joy and happiness are two different emotions that are somewhat similar but are actually very different. Joy is attributed to something very consistent and internal, while happiness tends to be triggered externally.
Since I have recently discovered how easy it is to use my Cricut, I decided to add my phrase for 2021 to several places in my home so I will be reminded daily.
Flower Pot Decoration
I first added this phrase to a flower pot that I keep in my kitchen window so I can see it every morning when I start the day.
- Choose your vinyl
- Use Transfer Paper
- Attach to the flower pot
Choose Joy Bookmarks
My Dad and I were talking about this phrase and it got into his head too. He decided to share this phrase in his Sunday message and wanted some bookmarks to hand out to the congregation. I easily plugged in my Cricut and printed out some simple bookmarks with the phrase Choose Joy!
Tote Bag
I also used some iron on vinyl to add the phrase to a tote bag so I can share the phrase with my family members.
I may not be able to control the circumstances around me, but I can look inside and find my JOY from above!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 NIV
