Easy Throw Pillows from Old Scrap Quilts
Remember the tattered quilt that Mom and I took apart a few weeks ago to make the quilted bag to store my plastic trash bags? I figured I had enough of the scrap fabric pieces left to make a throw pillow for my couch.
There are so many pieces that are torn and coming unstitched because they’re so old, but it still turned out so perfect to toss on the couch. This pillow came together in just one afternoon and is definitely beginner-friendly.

Easy Throw Pillows from Old Scrap Quilts
If you have a tattered quilt that’s no longer good enough to use as intended, cutting it up and repurposing it for a couch pillow is a great option.

Materials Needed:
- Pillow insert
- Scrap quilt topper or pieces you can connect to create a full pillow
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
Directions:
Sew enough pieces of the tattered quilt together to create a piece large enough to cover your pillow.
Make a long rectangle large enough to cover both sides of the pillow and still give you enough fabric to add a hem on each end for the tuck. Once you’ve created a large enough rectangle, turn the right sides of each end together to make a substantial hem. This will be what you tuck in to form the pillow. Do the same thing on the other end.
Next, sew the right sides together to make a pocket. Tuck the pillow into the sewn cover, making sure to push the pillow firmly into the corners.
Toss it on your couch and enjoy the memories. Maybe you’ll even have enough, like I did, to make two — one for your couch and one to share with mom.
