Easy Graduation Party Ideas

We’re getting ready for a graduation party to celebrate our son’s graduation from high school—and with everything else going on (like moving and traveling for work), it’s definitely a busy, crazy time. But planning a laid-back celebration doesn’t have to be stressful. Here are some easy graduation party ideas to help you with the last-minute planning.

Easy Graduation Party Ideas

We’re keeping it simple: hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, bags of chips, and some homemade cookies—because of course, that’s a given. Nothing fancy, just easy food that people actually want to eat. We’ll set up the cornhole boards out by the picnic table and fill a cooler with water bottles and sodas.

A few graduation decorations? Definitely. But we’re not going overboard. This party is about celebrating the graduate and making memories, not stressing over the details.

I made sure I had some balloons in the right color family. Since his school is blues and reds, it wouldn’t have worked to use orange or gold decor. A roll of curly ribbon and a popout graduation card that spells out CONGRATS!

The one thing I splurged on this year was the balloon sticks. I’m not sure how I’ve lived without these things. You can buy them on Amazon, of course, but the small pack at Walmart is perfect for this size of party decor. I simply cut them to the size I wanted and stuck them in a jar of peppermints. The color is a great match, and it gives me the height I wanted for my table.

I even flipped one of the balloon sticks upside down and used it to tape the graduation announcement so it would stand up easily.

Tip: If you’re hosting an outdoor party, don’t forget picnic tablecloth clips—they’re a lifesaver on windy days. Can’t find yours (or still unpacking from a move like me)? No problem. Just use bowls, chip bags, or serving trays to weigh down the corners. Simple and effective!

A simple Bluetooth speaker and a good playlist will be perfect while the cornhole game gets going. That’s all we need.

The iLive ISB309B Wireless Tailgate Speaker is a portable Bluetooth speaker with built-in wheels and a retractable handle, making it perfect for outdoor parties and on-the-go events. It features a rechargeable battery, multi-color LED light effects, and multiple input options including Bluetooth, AUX, USB, and FM radio. With its bold sound and easy portability, it’s a fun and functional addition to any backyard celebration or tailgate.
