DIY Kentucky Map Quilt Wall Art You’ll Love
I love to travel all over the United States and have been to 46 states so far but I have to admit, my favorite state of them all is my home state of Kentucky. There’s just something about the rolling hills and changing seasons that just says home to me. Another thing I love is quilting. I would not say I’m a skilled quilter, but there’s just something special about using the quilts that have been made by generations past and creating fun quilts for my family. That’s why I love my new Kentucky map quilt wall art that I just finished.

Kentucky Map Quilt Wall Art
If you know me very well at all, you know I have long been a fan of quilting. Ever since that day over 20 years ago, when I asked my Grandma to teach me how to quilt, I’ve been hooked. She never tired of telling the story of me coming to our house one day and asking to make a quilt in one weekend. We worked on several quilts together and even till she was late in her 90’s we were planning just one more.
Creating a Kentucky map quilt to hang on your wall is a pretty simple project that took me less than an hour from start to finish. If you can sew a straight line and use a pair of scissors, you’re on your way to creating this for your own home.
Materials Needed:
- Scrap Fabric
- Sewing Machine
- Kentucky map printed out
- Any picture frame
- Scissors
- Adhesive spray (optional)
Directions
The first step is deciding on which pieces of scrap fabric you want to use. I have been saving some of my husband’s old plaid shirts that he no longer needed and some scrap blue jean material, so I decided this would be perfect.
Cut the fabric into approximately one-inch strips and lay them out to determine the pattern you want to use.

Print out the shape of Kentucky so you will know how large an area your strips need to cover.

- Sew your strips together on your sewing machine.
- Iron them flat just as you would if you were starting a quilt.
- Cut out the shape.
- Tip: Remember to pin the pattern to your fabric so it won’t slide.

Take the glass out of your frame and measure a piece of burlap fabric to fit the inside of the frame.

Use a light adhesive spray to attach the map shape to the burlap. If you don’t have adhesive spray, you can tape or lightly baste a stitch around the edge.

Let the adhesive spray dry and then insert it into your frame.
Display your new Kentucky map wall art in your craft area or around your home. I love the way it turned out, and I am already thinking of what fabric I will use for the next one!

What do you think? Are you going to go make one yourself? I’d love to see how you turn this into something special in your home!
