Button People Plant Charm

I love playing with buttons and making little button Christmas trees and pot charms for my plants. But recently, I decided it was time to make some little button people. There’s just something pretty adorable about a little button person holding onto a plant pot. Don’t these just make you smile?

One of my daughter’s songs on her newest EP is called Done Holding On, and the lyrics remind us that — “I’m done holding on to all that I have because all of it’s Yours and it always will be.” These little buttons are the perfect visual reminder that we don’t own anything. God owns it all, and He is good.

Materials Needed

Button Person Plant Charm

  • Cut two lengths of wire about 24 inches each. Fold them in half and add a wooden bead for each leg.
  • Add about 10–15 buttons to each leg (depending on how long you want your button person).

  • Once both legs are finished, bring the wires together and begin adding buttons for the body. Add about 10 buttons for the body.
  • Separate the four wires and spread two of them out on each side for the arms. Add two more buttons above the separated wires to finish the upper body.
  • Twist the two center wires together and add the wooden bead for the head.
  • Pull the two wires down behind the head and twist them around the neck area to tie them off.
  • For the arms, I used 11 buttons on each side and then attached a wooden bead for the hands.
  • Bend the arms so the button person can hang onto a plant or pot.

Keychain Button Person Charm

  • To make a smaller keychain version, simply shorten the wire (about 12–18 inches) and use fewer buttons — 4–5 per leg, 5 for the body, and 5–6 per arm.
  • After adding the head bead, form a small loop above the head before twisting the wire closed.
  • Slide a keychain ring through the loop.

Share this with someone or tuck in a Bible verse card or inspirational thought.

What do you think? Aren’t these so much fun? Which one do you like better?
