Turning Estate Sale Fabric Into a Quilted Christmas Pillow

What do you do when you stumble upon an estate sale with an entire room full of fabric, quilting supplies, vintage buttons and zippers? If you’re me, you pack as much as you can in a box and hope the 50% signs apply to everything! This past weekend, we found an amazing stash of Christmas fabric and vintage zippers just waiting to be turned into something amazing.

I’ve been wanting to try a quilted throw pillow with a zipper so this was the perfect project for the night. The estate sale had stacks of fabric, some of which had already been cut into squares where the former owner had obviously been planning a Christmas quilt project. I never met the lady, but of course, I felt the need to finish some of what she had started.

I laid out the Christmas fabric squares and started sewing them together.

Then I decided to cut those strips in half so I would have more contrast in the designs. These fabric patterns are so festive and fun!

Once I had sewed all the pieces together, I added the low loft batting and quilted the topper.

Once I had the topper quilted, it was time to add the zipper. This is the first time I’ve ever added a zipper so I kept going over to youtube to see what I needed to do next.

Once the zipper was sewed in, I was able to sew the remaining sides and stuff the pillow inside.

Is it perfect? Not at all! But I’m super proud of my first pillow with a zipper. Now, I can reusre the same pillow insert for each season.

I just love the way the quilted pillow looks beside the afghan I crocheted years ago. It’s going to be fun to decorate this Christmas season!

Spread the love
