Visiting the National Firearms Museum


On one of our recent road trips, our family stopped to tour the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia. Whether you are a gun enthusiast or are just fascinated by John Wayne, Ben Cartwright or the Die Hard Movies, there’s something for everyone. We spent several hours wandering through the exhibits and discovering some amazing pieces of history, movie memorabilia and pretty cool weapons.


National Firearms Museum

The National Firearms Museum is free to the public and is more than just a few unique guns. If you are a gun enthusiast, then you will be intrigued by the variety of handguns. The museum is home to guns from all time periods including several displays devoted to different wars that have involved American servicmen and women.

If you are a movie buff and love seeing authentic movie props, then you will love the room with all the guns used in various movies. There’s the rifle used by Ben Cartwright on Bonanza, some John Wayne memorabilia as well as some gun props from the Book of Eli, Die Hard, Clint Eastwood, Rifleman and many more.

The National Firearms Museum, located at the NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, details and examines the nearly 700-year history of firearms with a special emphasis on firearms, freedom, and the American experience.
