Button Christmas Trees with Jewelry Wire

I love using the scrap supplies I have on hand to create something fun and special. Last year, I made some button Christmas trees using craft string but this year, I have discovered how much fun jewelry wire can be. So I decided to pull out my stash of assorted buttons and some jewelry wire to make some new button ornaments. If you have some buttons and jewelry wire, you can easily make these fun ornaments and gift embellishments.

Materials Needed

Directions

  • Arrange your buttons from largest to smallest. I use about 10-12 buttons per tree.
  • Cut a piece of jewelry wire about 8 inches.
  • Slide the first button to the middle so it will become the ‘bell’ at the bottom.
  • Continue stringing each of the buttons until you have the shape you like.
  • Twist the two strands tightly together and then make a circle.
  • Wrap the long twisted strand around the circle until you have a hook.
  • Use an ink pen or tapered chisel to form the loop into an almost perfect circle.
  • Snip the remaining twisted tail and wrap it tightly to finish it off.
  • Now, you’re ready to add an ornament hook or piece of festive ribbon to hang the button trees on the Christmas tree.
