My Grandad’s Family Tree Quilt
Many years ago, my Mom decided to create a Family Tree Quilt for my Granddad. She wanted a large display piece that could be used as a wall hanging or on a bed to showcase the family tree. This Family Tree quilt is no longer current. Many grandkids have gotten married and great grandkids have been born. It’s time to do some updates.
Family Tree Quilt
Mom has never been a quilter. But she knew how to use her sewing and craft skills to create a treasure. She used a special paint marker and designed the tree on a piece of fabric. Then she used scrap material to quilt the border. Instead of quilting the whole piece, she just tacked it with small pieces of yarn. For the tree outline, she used an embroidery stitch on her machine.
Now that the information needs to be updated, there are many Fabric Marker choices. She plans to add new branches to the tree and expand on the current information.
This is definitely a family heirloom. Isn’t it neat how different people honor and remember their history?
How do you display and remember your family tree? I’d love to see your family tree heirlooms.
A suggestion when and if you make one….think ahead for spaces for new family members so they can be added along the way. I’m working on being creative and updating this one and bringing in more color.
This is so awesome! I love ancestry what a great way for future generations to see who came before them!
