Aviation Museum of Kentucky
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky in Lexington is one of those places that’s absolutely worth a return visit. We took the kids there years ago, and this past week, my son headed back to check it out again—and came home talking about how much there is to see and experience.

It’s been about ten years since our last visit. The kids have grown up—and the museum has grown too.
Located right next to Blue Grass Airport, this museum makes a great day trip, whether you’re local to central Kentucky or just passing through. It’s packed with fascinating aircraft displays, flight simulators, and exhibits that appeal to all ages.

What You’ll Find Inside
The museum covers more than 20,000 square feet and features both military and civilian aircraft, from historic planes to modern jets. Some of the highlights include:
- F-14 Tomcat and F-4 Phantom fighter jets
- A Blue Angels A-4 Skyhawk
- AH-1 Cobra helicopter
- The Crosley Moonbeam biplane, built right here in Kentucky
- A replica of Kentucky’s first airplane—the 1908 Quadruplane
- Hands-on flight simulators and aviation learning stations
“The mission of the Aviation Museum of Kentucky is to serve the Commonwealth with dynamic aerospace education programs and to promote the state’s aviation industry.”
