DIY Vintage Quilt Bag with Foam Stabilizer
When I find a vintage quilt with too many stains or rips to use as a blanket, I love finding new ways to repurpose it and give it a second life. A few weeks ago, I was shopping at an antique store that was going out of business, and I spotted this vintage quilt. I’d already made a laptop sleeve, and I knew this was destined to become a bag I could use to carry books or snacks when we head out on an adventure.

Stand-up Vintage Quilt Bag
I wanted to experiment with foam stabilizer so the bag would have shape and structure and I had the perfect liner fabric that I found this past summer at an estate sale. Aren’t the roosters perfect?

Materials Needed
- Vintage quilt material (or a newer piece of fabric if you don’t have something old)
- Liner fabric
- Sewing machine
- Foam Stabilizer or thick batting
I used this YouTube video as my pattern.
Before I started making the actual bag, I quilted the foam stabilizer and the vintage quilt layer so it would have some shape and structure.

This bag turned out to be the perfect size for my Bible, sunglasses, water mug, and of course, a smaller zipper pouch with my latest hand project.

Each time I make another project, I feel like I’m getting a little better. Maybe I’ll add pockets or an inside zipper to my next bag. Stay tuned.
