Quilted Heart Keychains from Fabric Scraps
I love finding ways to reuse quilt scraps too small for zipper pouches, Christmas stockings, or pillows. These little quilted heart keychains are so easy to make and don’t even require a sewing machine. Just use whatever scrap fabric you have, add some alphabet beads and a little ribbon, and you can create these unique custom keychains.

How to Make Quilted Heart Keychains from Fabric Scraps
There’s just something special about working with pieces of family quilts or rescued fabric from an estate sale and turning it into things that can be used and enjoyed in a new way. That’s why I love these little keychains and scrapbuster projects that I’m making. Some of the fabric scraps are pretty fragile and may not be usable for years to come, but we’ll definitely get to enjoy them as long as they last.
Materials Needed
- Scrap fabric
- Needle and thread (or embroidery floss)
- Ribbon
- Wooden alphabet beads
- Bead threader
- Key ring
Directions
- Thread the alphabet beads on the bead threader and pull through the threader
- Cut two small hearts and sew them together. I used a simple blanket stitch, but you can use any stitch that is easiest for you. *Remember to leave an open pocket for the next step.
- Insert a small amount of pillow stuffing or cotton batting to give the puffy shape.
- Finish stitching around the heart to close the pillow.
- Loop the beaded letters and ribbon over the keychain, then use a needle and thread to attach the quilted heart to the ribbon
Now you’re all set to attach your vintage scrap quilted heart to your backpack or keyring.
These would be great to use as gift tags for Christmas or birthdays or attach to a backpack or keychain. I’ve got several more scrap pieces of fabric that are going in one of my zipper pouches so I can have an easy project next time I’m in the car or just chatting with family and friends.
