One of the fun summer activities for many people is looking for old treasures at yard sales. When we moved out here to our farm, we tried to downsize and only bring the things we loved, had memories with, or could use. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not still fun to go shopping at local yard sales. We’ve been to a few yard sales this summer and have found a few ‘treasures’. Here are 5 things I always buy at yard sales. Are these the same things you look for?

5 Things I Buy at Yard Sales
Canning Jars
Every day! All the time! When I go to yard sales, canning jars are often almost free. I have enough jars for my yearly canning, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need more. One of the best ways for me to store dry goods like flour, sugar, pasta or rice is in glass jars. So when I see 1/2 gallon jars at yard sales, I take note.
Most people are just trying to get rid of things that are junking up their garage. At one yard sale, I found 1/2 gallon canning jars listed for $2.00 each. I asked them for their best price. As it turned out, they just wanted the box gone, so they gave me the whole box for $5.00. Now that’s what I call a great deal!
I brought them home, ran them through the dishwasher, and they’re ready to go straight into the pantry!
Shipping Supplies
I’m constantly going through more boxes of things I have stored and finding things to sell on eBay or in Facebook groups. Shipping supplies can be expensive, so I always look for new packages of shipping envelopes. Most of the time, people are willing to sell them for a quarter or pretty cheap
Quilt Tops and Pieces
I love repurposing old quilts into something new and usable. When I find a topper or worn-out quilt for a low price, I almost always buy it. It’s hard to find them, but I’m always looking.
I snagged this one recently and turned it into drawstring bags! Aren’t they fun?
Fabric & Sewing Notions
One of the things that people often discard for low prices is fabric scraps and sewing notions like thread, zippers, or scissors. When I found a bag at a recent yard sale for $3.00, I snagged it immediately.
Cheap Flower Vases
I love growing wildflowers on the farm. Each year, I plant a few more with plans to have acres of wildflowers in the future. One of the fun things about growing flowers is sharing them with friends, family members, and neighbors. I’m constantly on the lookout for really cheap flower vases that I can fill with flowers each summer.
