Repurposed Quilt Topper Drawstring Storage Bag

I love decorating with quilts in my home. I have our family quilts saved and displayed in my vintage pie safe. Each of these has special memories and gets rotated around on our beds and couch. Quilts are meant to be enjoyed, not just stored in totes in the basement, don’t you think?

But some quilts have been loved and worn out completely. They are so tattered and torn that they can no longer be used as blankets. So what do we do with them after they have outworn their usefulness?

That’s when it’s super satisfying to turn them into something new to enjoy. I’ve taken some of the family quilts and created pillows, drawstring bags, and pillow shams.

Repurposed Quilt Topper Drawstring Bag

A few months ago, I saw a quilt topper in a thrift store when we were out on a road trip. Immediately, I could see this quilt top being turned into so many amazing things. Sure, I could bring it home and finish it as a quilt, but I saw something a little different for this piece of memories.

I mean, just imagine the stories that went into this quilt topper. These pieces of fabric were probably left over from housedresses, school clothes, or aprons from years back.

I decided to give this new life in the form of drawstring storage bags. I love the one I created several months ago to store my grocery bags in the laundry room. It has such character and allows me to reuse those plastic bags while still enjoying the quilt pieces.

Make It or Buy It

Making these bags out of old quilt toppers is definitely not an advanced project. You simply cut the topper, sew it into the right shape, and add a drawstring loop. I would love to see the ones you create.
