Vintage Quilt Laptop Sleeve

I was thinking the other day about how I carry my laptop. Yes, I have a traditional laptop backpack, but what if I could use a vintage quilt and create a laptop sleeve? Wouldn’t it be fun to have something more unique to take to the office on my next work trip? I did some YouTube searches and realized that all a laptop sleeve is a padded zipper pouch – and I’ve got those pretty much down pat. So I pulled out my latest cutter quilt and started measuring.

Vintage Quilt Laptop Sleeve

Recently, we were out doing some ‘thrifting’ at an antique store that was going out of business. Since it was the last day of their shop, everything was discounted. I immediately spotted a beautiful vintage quilt and snagged it! Sure, it had tears, stains, and lots of years of love, but I knew it would be perfect for my next project.

Materials Needed

  • Vintage quilt material (or a newer quilt if you don’t have something old)
  • Zipper
  • Liner fabric
  • Sewing machine
  • Foam Stabilizer or thick batting

Directions

  • Measure your computer on top of the quilt fabric and cut at least 1-2 inch border. Remember that you will be sewing right sides together and then turning it so you will lose some of the space.
  • Dig through your stash of zippers and find one that is longer than your computer.
    • I love using old zippers when I’m working with vintage fabric. It just fits so much better than going to the store and buying something brand new.

Each time I start making a new zipper pouch or laptop sleeve, I refer to this YouTube video. It’s the easiest one I’ve found for adding a liner to a zipper pouch.

Now that I have made one laptop sleeve, I think I’ll probably have to make one for my other computer. What do you think?

No time to make your own? You can buy a quilted laptop sleeve from Amazon.
