Path of Freedom Book Review

I have been loving the Quilts of Love series. I have read two books in the series recently:
Wild Goose Chase Christmas and Beyond the Storm. Each book in the series uses a quilt as the centerpiece of the story line. This newest book in the series called Path of Freedom uses a special quilt called the Midnight Star as the map to bring freedom to two young runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad.

Path of Freedom

The Path of Freedom is the story of a group of Quakers who are dedicated to helping runaway slaves escape via the Underground Railroad. The author addresses the historical accuracy of the book immediately. Whether Quakers really used quilts to help map the route of the railway or not, this is a great story and one that captured my interest from the beginning.

This story is not just about the birth of freedom for 2 young slaves, it’s about forgiveness, trust and learning to love. Flora and Bruce had a rocky start to their friendship. Words said when they were kids have made it almost impossible to move forward. Some would say that time heals everything, but this book shows that sometimes time is not enough to heal all wounds. Sometimes it takes a brand new start to mend the old wounds and show you that someone has really changed.

This is one of those books that was a joy to read.

About the book

When Quakers Flora Saferight and Bruce Millikan embark on the Underground Railroad, they agree to put their differences aside to save the lives of a pregnant slave couple. With only her mother’s quilt as a secret guide, the foursome follows the stitches through unknown treachery.

As they embark on their perilous journey, they hope and pray that their path is one of promise where love sustains them, courage builds faith, and forgiveness leads to freedom.
