Stitching Memories with my Daughter

My 9 year old daughter and I have been working on a Spring quilt. We started it one day several months ago when winter was at his coldest and most dreary days and we really just needed some color in our lives. This past weekend, we made some real progress. I love that I am Stitching Memories with my daughter that will last a lifetime and beyond.

We are making a Tossed Nine Patch. This is a great pattern for the two of us to work on. It takes the basic 9-Patch Quilt block up a notch and makes for some great designs.

We were ready to start connecting the individual blocks, so together we took turns sewing the blocks together to make the first row. It’s always amazing to me how different the fabric looks as you start connecting the pieces.

Of course, one of the tough parts of any sewing project is learning that it is harder to rip out bad stitches than it is to do it right the first time. Fortunately, we didn’t have too many seams that we had to rip out.

Learning to Iron

I well remember the many hours spent ironing my Dad’s shirts on Saturday mornings. I decided that at age 9, it’s time for my daughter to learn how to handle an iron. She was a bit nervous about it at first, but then after we went through the safety points, she did great.

We added a border on the sides using some of the leftover material and stood back to admire our work.

Now we are ready to begin the next step of making the quilt.
