5 Things to do when It’s Hot Outside
As summer temperature start to heat up in the month of July, it’s time to find some things to do that allow you to stay cool and still have some fun. Sure, you can spend time in the backyard pool or visit the local swimming pool, but sometimes you prefer to find things to do out of the heat. Here are several things to do inside!
5 Things to do when it’s hot outside
Great American Dollhouse Museum:
Danville, Kentucky has one of the most amazing museums in the country. The Great American Dollhouse Museum showcases over 200 dollhouses, miniature buildings, and room boxes, furnished in remarkable detail and populated with tiny people at work and play. Each display is a work of art. There were several displays that really captured my kids and my attention. In one of the displays, you can see the story of a boy who has been caught with his sling shot. He has destroyed a glass gumball machine outside the general store. You can see the whole story line – complete with the details of the glass breakage and the look of displeasure on the store owner’s face. If you look closely in the toy store window nearby, you can see the tiny dolls from popular nursery rhymes. It’s not just for kids!
Tour this museum with your Mom, your Grandmother or friends. This museum is for the grown up miniature art lover!
This is one treasure that every Danville resident needs to visit on their own and then go back whenever you have family or friends visiting from out of town!
Visit the Public Library:
There’s no better place to be on a hot summer day than inside the library. Whether you are exploring the massive collection of books, allowing the kids to enjoy the many summer activities or taking advantage of the programs for adults that are offered on a regular basis, there is something here for everyone.
Goodwill/Salvation Army:
Looking for deals at the local thrift stores is a fun way to spend a few hours on a hot summer day. Let the kids dig through the toy buckets, look for a unique piece of glassware or find a classic paperback. You never know what you will find when you dig for treasures, plus you won’t have to spend a fortune. Tip: Just remember that there is no return policy. Check your purchase before you walk out the door.
Bowling & WindJammers Fun Center:
Whether you are ready for some family fun at the bowling alley, ready to skate to the classics or try your luck at the arcade games, don’t forget the options here in Danville. You can get some exercise, have some fun and make some memories! Check out the Kids Bowl Free program that will allow your kids to bowl free all summer long (just pay shoe rental).
Peddlers Mall & Antique Stores:
Yard Sales are great places to find deals and look for treasures but sometimes you want to go bargain hunting inside an air conditioned building. Peddlers Malls & Antique Stores are great places to look for vintage items as well as some items that you won’t find anywhere else. Go looking for a deal or find inspiration for a new craft project. This is a great way to get your daily steps in when it’s really too hot to want to take long walks outside. When we take road trips, we will occasionally find antique stores or Peddlers malls so we can stretch and get a break from the car.
How do you make fun when it’s hot outside? I’d love to hear!
