Holiday Expectations & New Traditions in 2020
Think about your current holiday traditions that you find the most rewarding each year. Take some time to write them down on paper. Now look at the realities of travel and large gatherings in 2020 and evaluate your list to see if there are some of these traditions that will have to undergo some tweaks.
Once you have established your baseline of what you typically do each holiday season, find some ways to pivot and create an amazing 2020 holiday season!
Celebrate Your Family Unit – wherever you are!
For some people, you will be greeting the holiday season with someone in your core family unit missing. Whether it is because of sickness, military, work responsibilities or just kids growing up, the family unit may be a bit smaller than usual. Find creative ways to use technology to bring you together.
- Set up a cookie baking night with everyone in their own kitchens while the computers cameras are turned on so you can talk and laugh together.
- Create shared music playlists so everyone is listening to the same family favorites.
- Give your parents/grandparents a digital photo frame so you can share photos from holiday events and special moments. You can share a private code with each of the family members that allows them to easily share photos from their phones to the digital photo frame.
Keep the Traditions that Work for 2020
There are some holiday traditions that won’t have to change – even in 2020! Many families love taking a drive around the neighborhood to look at the festive lights of the season. Make some hot chocolate, pop the popcorn and bundle the kids up in their cozy pj’s and head out to count Christmas trees and inflatable snowmen!
Watch your favorite Christmas movies and then explore new Christmas favorites. Buttons: a Christmas Tale starring two of my favorite classic actors! Dick van Dyke and Angela Landsbury join forces with this new holiday favorite!
Buttons: A Christmas Tale is the magical, musical story that shows believing can be the greatest gift of all. Follow the heartwarming journey of two orphan girls whose only wish is to find a home for Christmas. With a little help from their guardian angels (screen legends Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury), they discover that miracles really can happen when you find the power to believe. From director Tim Janis, this inspiring holiday film for the whole family features an all-star cast including Jane Seymour, Roma Downey and Abigail Spencer, and is narrated by Kate Winslet and Robert Redford, with a special song by Sir Paul McCartney.

What holiday traditions are you tweaking for Christmas 2020? I’d love to hear your favorite ways to celebrate the holidays with your family?
HI Sharon:) I am happy to connect with you here and am glad you are part of our Momentum Influencers network! I loved the music in “Buttons” and what a sweet story too.
I love finding new holiday traditions for making memories with my family. I also love passing those traditions on to my friends, family and son. If I could make the season last all year I probably would but then it might lose it’s specialness.
I’ve added more Christmas trees to my home instead the main one in the living room!
Great idea to decorate Christmas in every area of the house instead of just the living room!
We love watching Christmas movies!! We’re honestly still trying to get in the Christmas spirit. I’m thinking that movie Buttons would do the trick!!
Last year I watched several new to me Christmas movies so am excited to start Buttons this weekend!!
I love hearing about everyone’s Christmas traditions! One tradition we’re tweaking this year is regarding our annual new ornament. We go on vacation every year and find an ornament that will remind us of that trip. This year, no vacation. So, we picked up a locally made ornament from a local crafters and artisans store. A cute little handmade gingerbread man ornament that will take place of our 2020 vacation ornament 🙂
What a great idea to tweak the tradition and make it work this year!
