The Day We Rescued a Bathtub From the Marsh

Yes, that’s a bathtub—and yes, we’re pulling it across the farm.

I have a friend with an old vintage bathtub tucked into her flower beds, complete with a solar fountain and I’ve loved it ever since I saw it. So when we moved to the farm last year and were out exploring, my eyes caught something unexpected—an old bathtub hidden down in the marsh.

Today was the perfect day to put on my muck boots and go check it out.

At first glance, I honestly thought it was a lost cause. There were several small trees growing straight out of the bathtub, and it looked like it had been there forever. But once we started digging in with a shovel, we realized there was at least six inches of mud, roots, and leaves packed inside.

After quite a bit of work, I finally hit the bottom—and realized the tub was actually intact.

Now came the bigger question… how were we going to get it out of the marsh and all the way over to my nursery bed?

But nothing is impossible.

Sure, the tub was heavy. And sure, it was stuck way back in the marsh. And yes, the nursery is on the opposite side of the barns and up a hill. So we hooked up the winch on the farm vehicle and dragged it out between the barns and up the hill.

Now all that’s left is cleaning it out, moving it into the flower bed, and getting it ready for next growing season.

It may not look like much yet, but come summer? I think it’s going to be pretty amazing!

So what do you think—would you have rescued this old bathtub, or left it stuck in the marsh and mud?

And while I’ve got you…
Any tips for keeping the water looking good next summer?
Got a favorite solar-powered pump I should check out?

Thanks to Beehind Thyme Farm & Garden for the inspiration. Mine may not be quite as fancy, but I think it will be pretty fun next summer!
