Building a Firewood Storage Rack
With the weather starting to cool, I’m already planning for cozy evenings—hot tea or cocoa, a bowl of homemade popcorn, and the warmth of a fire in the wood-burning stove downstairs. But before that dream can become a reality, we need one essential thing: dry, easily accessible firewood.
A firewood storage rack made from salvaged materials isn’t a new idea, but it’s an easy, cost effective way to keep firewood dry and off the ground.

Building a Firewood Storage Rack
There were two things that we knew going into this project.
- We needed a place to store cut firewood.
- We wanted to use scrap supplies from the farm.
Salvaged Materials
- Three Concrete blocks from the barn
- Scrap 2×4’s from leftover projects
- Tin roof from an old barn
- Loose bucket of screws
- Random firewood from downed trees on the farm
How to Build It
To make the rack, we used the concrete blocks as the base and 2x4s as the side braces. Two beams across the top hold everything together and support the tin roof. If it feels a little wobbly, just add a few short pieces of 2×4 to the ends for extra stability.
Now we’re ready for those first crisp fall nights—when it’s cool enough to light a small fire and settle in for the season.
