Fabric Napkins with my new Singer Serger

I’ve made fabric napkins before, but now that I have this new Singer Serger, I’m ready to create some pretty cool projects. It took some trial and error to thread the machine correctly, but now I’m ready to show you my first serger project.

Fabric Napkins with my new Singer Serger

When I brought home the Singer Serger from the estate sale last month, I was so excited to plug it in and get it started. But then I realized I was a bit over my head. I called my aunt, who came running to the rescue. We spent several hours teaching me how to thread and adjust the tension. Then it was time to get started on my first project.

Using a serger is not really complicated once you get all four spools threaded correctly. Just follow the steps and use quality thread.

I decided it was finally the perfect time to pull out the double sided fabric that I purchased last year from a local fabric store.

Making the fabric napkins was so easy with the serger. Just cut out a square about 17 inches . Then serge down each side and clip the excess thread.

I had never used a serger and I knew it would trim the fabric but I was still so fascinated with the little pile that is left over after each seamed edge.

Of course, I can’t throw those soft pieces of trimmed fabric. They’re all going in a big glass jar waiting for when I need stuffing for a floor pillow I’m dreaming up!

Now I have the perfect fun napkins ready for each meal when we sit down at the table. And as easy as they were to make, I’ll probably be making a bunch more before the holidays.

Which color combination is your favorite? If you have used a serger, is there any advice for what I need to do for my next batch?
