William Howard Taft National Historic Site
What do you know about the 27th President of the United States? Up until our most recent visit to the William Howard Taft National Historic Site, we didn’t know much either. But this free tour helped us learn some interesting facts about President Taft who was also the only President to serve as Chief Justice of the United States.

You begin your tour at the Visitor Center where you can talk to the Park Rangers and walk through a small opening exhibit. There are also restrooms available before you begin your tour.

This is a great place to get your picture taken with President Taft.

You then walk across the lawn to meet your guide who will take you through part of the house tour. The tour begins in the downstairs area of the house where they have meetings and educational classes. Then you head upstairs to the first floor where you begin the guided tour.

It is always a neat experience to walk through a house where one of our US Presidents has spent time. The furnishing at the Taft Historic Site are not original but they are authentic to the time period.

William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) was an American jurist and statesman who served as both the 27th President of the United States (1909–1913) and later the 10th Chief Justice of the United States (1921–1930).
Once the tour guide takes you through the rooms on the first floor, you are free to explore the upstairs and remaining the exhibits on your own.

When we visited the Supreme Court in Washington DC last Spring, we saw the head bust statues of each of the Chief Justice. What a neat opportunity to help the kids be able to connect pieces of American History by visiting different places in the country.
