Learning to Relax

Life can be a bit stressful sometimes, can we all agree? What makes you smile? How do you relax when life gets busy? Here are a few of my favorite ideas to help relax and de-stress! When life gets going too fast, sometimes you just need to take a step back and do something slow.

We All Need to Relax

Listen to Music

Whatever your particular style of music is, you can find a playlist that will fit your mood. Turn on a playlist of your favorite music and feel the stress of the day just disappear.

All my life I have found joy in playing the piano. Recently I started a YouTube playlist with some of my favorites. If you are looking for a new relaxing music channel, you might enjoy some of my favorite hymns, classics, and even some originals by my granddad, Roger Oldham.

Read a Book

Sometimes you need a book that will let you laugh and unwind. Pick up your favorite comic strip, humor writer or read a book on gardening. It may be cold outside, but there’s always time to learn something new for the next summer gardening season.

Don’t forget to take care of your skin when the temperature starts to drop. You can buy a tube of lotion from the local box store, or you can take it up a notch and support small businesses that are working hard to get back to basics and create products that smell good and are also good for you.

Eat Your Favorite Snack

When I want to relax and unwind, a bag of my favorite chocolates or a cup of hot tea is the perfect treat. Whether you enjoy popcorn, hot tea or a fresh bagel, find your favorite snack and enjoy some quiet time!

Grow Something Beautiful

Whether you grow a simple tray of succulents or spend time in the garden, take time to plant something and watch it grow. Plants can lessen stress and help bring enjoyment to every piece of life.

Take Care of Yourself

When life gets busy, it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself. Remember to get plenty of steps, move between meetings, drink water, use chapstick, read your Bible or favorite devotional or burn a candle while you are working. Currently, I love the lavender-scented products from Bee Inspired.

I’ve got a small lavender plant that did better this year than ever, so I’m really hoping that soon I’ll be able to start making some of my own salves with lavender. Stay tuned to see how it does next summer!
