We have been visiting McKays since 1992 and have seen many changes over the years. The book stores in all three locations have outgrown the small buildings where they started and now have almost every possible book genre you can imagine. Anytime we take a road trip through Knoxville, Nashville or Chattanooga, our family knows that we will be stopping at McKays.
Tips for Shopping at McKays
We love to recycle our books and media so we have trade credit at McKays. Whenever we finish a book, CD, DVD or video game it goes in a box in the garage so it will be ready for our next Tennessee road trip. When we arrive at McKays, we take in our unwanted books and media and browse the store while they get our offer ready.
You can receive cash or trade credit for your used items. We always choose the trade credit because you get more. Inevitably, there will be books or media that they cannot take. Each of the locations has a free box out front where you can donate the items that the store won’t take. We have found some great items in this free box.
More than Books
McKays is not just for books. There are also CDs, Video Games and Movies in all styles. McKays often marks CDs as ‘scratched’ and sell these CD’s for a couple of dollars. This is a great frugal way to try new artists!
There are also LEGO bins where you can fill a bag with as many LEGO pieces as you can fit in your bag for only $3.95!
