Ronald Reagan US Landmarks

Ronald Reagan Road Trip

Of course every road trip should start at the beginning. So our President Reagan road trip should begin at his birthplace.

Tampico, Illinois is an Illinois town with a small footprint on the map but a huge contribution to American history. This small apartment where Ronald Reagan was born serves as a reminder that anything is possible in the United States. Make sure you call ahead because though the tours are free, they are not offered every day.

While you are in Tampico, there are several other places of significance in President Reagan’s life. Check out the small park, church and other homes where he lived.

From Tampico, you take a short drive over to Dixon, Illinois to visit Reagan’s boyhood home. There you can take a guided tour and learn about his elementary and high school years. Make sure you ask the tour guide to tell you the story of the pennies under the fireplace tiles!

While in Dixon, swing by the church, high school, library and of course down by the river to learn about Reagan’s life and take pictures with his monument by the river.
