Of course every road trip should start at the beginning. So our President Reagan road trip should begin at his birthplace.

Tampico, Illinois is an Illinois town with a small footprint on the map but a huge contribution to American history. This small apartment where Ronald Reagan was born serves as a reminder that anything is possible in the United States. Make sure you call ahead because though the tours are free, they are not offered every day.

While you are in Tampico, there are several other places of significance in President Reagan’s life. Check out the small park, church and other homes where he lived.

From Tampico, you take a short drive over to Dixon, Illinois to visit Reagan’s boyhood home. There you can take a guided tour and learn about his elementary and high school years. Make sure you ask the tour guide to tell you the story of the pennies under the fireplace tiles!

While in Dixon, swing by the church, high school, library and of course down by the river to learn about Reagan’s life and take pictures with his monument by the river.

The ultimate destination for Reagan fans is the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley, California. This beautiful museum and library is located at the top of a hill overlooking the entire area. Not only is the Museum filled with memorabilia, interactive exhibits and history, but it also offers beautiful gardens and outdoor sculptures.

Reagan Ranch

Few people get the opportunity to experience the privately owned Reagan Ranch in California. But if you are fortunate enough to get a tour by attending a Young America’s Foundation (YAF) conference, you will get the opportunity to see the place that President Reagan called home for twenty five years in Santa Barbara, California.
