Our family has been eating a lot of salads, but sometimes we all agree that our traditional salads are a little boring. This weekend, I decided to take our salads up a notch and add something new. Alexia Fries and Onion Rings were the perfect ingredients to give our summer salads a fresh crunch.
Summer Salad Gets a New Crunch
If you are tired of boring salad, then these tips are for you!
Make it Fun
One of the fun things about ordering onion rings when we go to a restaurant is the way they are served in a tower. Make salad night a little more fun by creating your own onion ring tower.
- Small Wooden dowel rod
- Small Wood base (I used a pre-painted sunshine from the craft section at Walmart.
- Drill a small hole in the wooden base
- Slide the wooden dowel rod into the base
- Stack your onion rings and serve.
Give it Color
Salad is a great way to get a rainbow of colors on each person’s plate. Take a walk through the fresh produce section of your Walmart and pick out the most colorful vegetables and fruits you can find.
Let the family choose!
Salad night is not necessarily about creating the most perfect salad. Instead, I want to make sure my family has the most options on the table that will let them build their own creations.
I set all the toppings out in little bowls, glasses and containers so each member of the family could decide how much they wanted on their salads. One of the great things about the Alexia line of Fries and Rings is that they are made with all natural ingredients! I can serve them to my family and let them eat them however they want – whole, dipped in a sauce or chopped up and sprinkled on salad!
I included cherry tomatoes, green and red peppers, bacon bits, shredded cheese, grilled chicken and of course the feature of the night: Sweet Potato Fries with Sea Salt, Onion Rings and the all new Alexia Rosemary with sea salt fries.
When the salad supper is over, there is one more fun way to enjoy the Alexia Sweet Potato Fries. Why not create individual serving bowls of Sweet Potato Pie?
Cut baked sweet potato fries into bite sized pieces.
Layer the fries in each individual ramekin bowl.
Drop a spoonful of brown sugar on top.
Layer with marshmallows.
Bake until golden brown.
Enjoy with a spoon!
