Still Life Book Feature

I like a fiction book filled with mystery, suspense and a hint of squeaky clean romance. As a long term fan of Dani Pettrey, I was excited to receive the second book in the Chesapeake Valor series.

Hobbies on a Budget received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Blog Network for the purpose of this review. No monetary compensation was received. All opinions are my own.

Still Life Book Feature

I read the first book in the Chesapeake Valor series and loved it. Still Life takes several of the characters in the series and follows them through their next mystery. It is a bit confusing at times because there are so many different characters at various stages of their story, but it is a satisfying read that is worth your time.

When Avery arrived at the art show featuring her friend, she never expected to be jumping into a missing person case that quickly escalated into a possible murder. While battling the ghosts of her past, she is thrust into another opportunity to renew her partnership with detective Parker Mitchell. In typical Dani Pettrey style, Still Life takes you on an adventure full of mystery and suspense with just enough romantic undertones to make it interesting.

I love when a book crosses paths with real life experiences. Over the past few years we have made a point of visiting several different art museums.  Though we have never had the opportunity to view a live art show, it’s still an experience. Fortunately, our art museum visits have not ended up anything like Avery in the first chapter of Still Life.

About the Book

Blacklisted in the photography business over a controversial shot, Avery Tate answered an ad for a crime scene photographer. She expected to be laughed at, but crime scene analyst Parker Mitchell hired her outright–and changed her life. But six months ago, when her feelings for Parker became too strong, she left his employ to sort out her heart.

Now, for the first time, Avery is facing the world that rejected her to attend the gallery opening of a photography exhibit and support her best friend, who modeled for the show. But the only image of her friend is a chilling photo of her posing as if dead–and the photographer insists he didn’t take the shot. Worse, her friend can’t be found. She immediately calls Parker for help. As Avery, Parker, and his friends in law enforcement dig into the mystery, they find themselves face-to-face with a relentless and deadly mystery.
