This past week we have been on Spring Break here in Kentucky. That means time off from school. So, of course, we had to take a road trip and go exploring. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing tips on what to see, how to save money and how to get tickets to some of the most popular historic attractions on a road trip to Washington DC. Road Trip Adventures in Washington DC

So where did we go? And what will I be sharing over the next few weeks?

Halfway Stop: Roanoke, Virginia

Since we didn’t want to drive the full trip the first day, we took some time at the halfway point in Roanoke, Virginia. We toured the warehouses at Black Dog Salvage. Thanks Christa for a great tour! I can’t wait to share some of the highlights of this tour and vacation destination!

and enjoyed the overlook of Roanoke, Virginia’s Historic Star.

Walked the grounds of George Washington’s Mt. Vernon.

We hit the highlights of many of the Smithsonian museums. Recognize these red shoes, anyone?

Took hundreds of pictures at the monuments around the Tidal Basin and national mall.

We were about 4 days past the cherry blossom peak but they were still gorgeous!

We discovered the best tips for navigating the Washington DC metro and shuttle service. Why do we have some tips to share? Because we rode the Metro a whole bunch of times!

We did the super fun and informative Hop On Hop Off Historic Tours Old Town Trolley tour.

We sat in the gallery of the Supreme Court and saw the amazing self-supporting staircase.

Looking to tour the Capitol building? We found the easiest way to beat the crowds and how to get a personal tour from a Kentucky native.

We visited presidential graves, homeplaces and monuments.

We saw the derringer that shot President Lincoln, George Washington’s dentures, the Hope Diamond, the flag that flew over Iwa Jima in the famous picture and monument, watched the Changing of the Guard at Arlington Cemetary, saw money being made and much, much more….
