Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Have you got your pumpkin decorated yet? If you are looking for something a little different than the typical carving, then here are some ideas you may want to consider! Glitter or Paint may help you create a one of a kind pumpkin that will be lots more fun (and maybe even a little safer without the knives).

You can do a quick search on Pinterest and find some amazing pumpkin designs. There are buttons, lights, candles, ribbons, stripes – everything you can imagine and more! But here are 3 ideas from my friends that I thought were alot of fun!

Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Glitter and Glue Pumpkin

Angela and her daughter Tori created these beautiful pumpkins using paint and glitter.

We used circular sponges with the “handles” from Hobby Lobby and dipped them in gold paint to make the polka dots. We sprayed the small ones with adhesive spray, and them sprinkled copper-colored glitter over them. The only thing I would change about the glitter ones is I wanted to see if there was some kind of clear coating in a spray can that we could have used to prevent the glitter from coming off and getting everywhere.

I did a quick search and found these Martha Stewart 32243 Foam Pouncers, Set of 6 that would probably work if you aren’t near a Hobby Lobby. But if you are going to Hobby Lobby, make sure you grab your weekly coupon!

Paint Faces

Sharon E and her grandchildren grabbed some paint and started creating some fun faces on these pumpkins. Her youngest granddaughter wasn’t as interested in making a face as she was in just covering the surface with paint. They made memories and some great pumpkin decorations.

We just cleaned them off with a damp paper towel, then painted with acrylic paint I had. of course acrylic will not come out of clothes so then need paint smocks or old tee shirts, the paint will last longer outside

Make it out of Cake

If carving or decorating a traditional pumpkin isn’t your style, then maybe you can just make a cake and then ice it to look like a pumpkin?

Amanda from Survival Guide by the Working Mom made a carrot cake in a bundt pan and added food coloring to cream cheese frosting. The stem was made out of an ice cream cone then coated with frosting. I love the chocolate baking chips she used to create the face. Doesn’t it look like fun?

How will you decorate pumpkins this year? I’d love to see your creation! Just hop over to Facebook and upload your picture so we can all enjoy! Happy Fall!
