My kids and I love making smoothies. We have used nesquik, milk, fruit, chocolate syrup, ice and peanut butter. But this last week I discovered peanut butter coffee smoothies. I have figured out how to make them just a bit healthier too. Since I love the consistency of smoothies, I am so excited to find new blends and combinations that taste good.
Peanut Butter Coffee Smoothies
Recently I picked up a single serve blender. I have had a large family size blender for many years, but this new Hamilton Beach 51101 Personal Blender is much more convenient for me to use on a regular basis. I usually fix some version of a smoothie several times a week. Here’s my newest favorite: peanut butter coffee smoothies!
Handful of Ice
1 Cup of Water
Sweetener to taste
Pour in coffee, ice, water, your sweetener of choice and a spoon of peanut butter. I use 2 teaspoons of splenda. Blend till ice is crushed and drink is smooth.
I have also done many variations of this smoothie. I have used chocolate protein powder or a scoop of nesquik – basically whatever I have. I love using local honey as the sweetener instead of Splenda when I have it in the cabinet.
Making it a bit healthier
I have a friend who loves Nutrisystem and sent me a few packets of the Creamy Chocolate Protein Shake Mix. I used it instead of nesquik in several smoothies. I was a little hesitant about using a protein powder, but I was pleasantly surprised. As long as I didn’t add too much water or milk, the smoothie tasted really good. I loved the fact that I was making my snack healthier and including so many more proteins and healthy options.
If you like a creamier smoothie, you can use milk instead of water.
Do you enjoy making your own smoothies? I’d love to hear your favorite recipe or blend!
