Stop Motion Videos are super popular with brands, bloggers and consumers. But they are a ton of work. I’ve dabbled in stop motion but I am definitely not very good at it. To do it right, you need hundreds of images, a tripod with photo setup and hours of work. But since I understand how important it is to be able to create stop motion clips, I’m excited to find toys that are actually teaching our kids new skills that could eventually help them in real life job situations. Stikbot Toy Figures are an inexpensive toy that teach children the basics of stop motion videos.
Learning Stop Motion with Stikbots
But before we go any farther, we need to know what stop motion videos are.
Stop motion video: a filming technique in which objects (such as clay models) are photographed in a series of slightly different positions so that the objects seem to move.
Stikbots can be purchased for as little as $5.00 – $10.00 They are small poseable figures with suctions on each arm and leg. This gives them ability to move freely.
The free Stikbots app allows you to create stop motion video clips, add music, effects and change the speed. You set up your first shot and take a picture with your smart phone. Then you move the Stikbot character one position and take the next picture. The app shows you a faded out image of the previous shot so you will be able to position each frame.
We played around with the free app and let our little green Stikbot see if he could fight past all the Star Wars figures in the newest Star Wars Chess Game.

Have you found any fun ways to teach your kids how to do stop motion films? I’d love to find more ways to help my kids learn while they’re having fun.
