Have you ever left the house in a hurry, only to remember 15 minutes down the road that you forgot to turn down the thermostat? Or maybe you are coming home after work and the temperature has dropped 20 degrees since you left the house that morning? You just dread opening the door to a cold house. This is where the Nest is the perfect solution. Here are step by step directions of how to connect the Nest Thermostat.
How to Connect the Nest Thermostat
It took us less than an hour to install the Nest.
Unbox and check products
The Nest comes with everything you need to get it installed and ready to roll.
Before you start working with the actual thermostat, make sure you Turn OFF the electricity to your house.
- Remove your old thermostat.
- Mark the wires so you will know what goes where when you reattach. There are stickers included in your Nest kit to help you identify the wires.
Connect the Nest
You simply attach the Nest using 2 long screws, reattach the wires using the stickers you attached in the first step, and then attach the Nest cover.
Tip: To adjust the Nest and go through the installation prompts, you simply touch the screen or dial the knob.
Follow the Installation Prompts
The prompts will ask your choice of language, time zone, and give you the opportunity to connect to your internet.
Download the Nest App
Once you have the thermostat installed, you can download the free Nest app to your iphone and add your Nest device. Once you add your device, you can adjust the temperature from your phone whether you are at home, at work or out on the road.
To get the most out of your Nest, connect to your existing home’s Wi Fi network and download the free app from iTunes or GooglePlay – this allow you to manage your home’s temp from your smartphone, tablet or laptop, even when you’re miles away
In order to get the most out of the Nest Thermostat, you must have internet. That’s where the Netgear Router and Dead Spot Terminator come in candy. In our house, we have a large backyard where I like to work. Before the DST booster, I could not get a strong internet signal.
To install the Dead Spot Terminator, we just plugged in into an outlet in our basement, followed the simple prompts and connected it to the Netgear router. Now I am able to easily get a strong signal even out by the creek at my picnic table.
