God Gave Us Christmas Book Review

I love reading special books together with the kids at night before bed. During the Christmas season, we pull out the special holiday books and enjoy them before storing them away till next year. Last week, I received another classic Lisa Tawn Bergren book in the “God Gave Us” series. We already love these books. The expressions on the Mama bears face and the love between the cubs and the parents always makes for a great reading experience. Though God Gave Us Christmas has been around for several years, this is the first time we have read it together.

God Gave Us Christmas

God Gave Us Christmas starts with Little Cub asking the question “Who ‘vented Christmas?” As parents, we all have to decide how to balance the fun of Santa Claus with the truth of the real meaning we celebrate Christmas. This book does a great job of sharing the truths that God is why we celebrate Christmas, because, after all, He is the one who gave us the first Christmas with the birth of baby Jesus. One thing I love about the book is that it doesn’t debunk the stories of Santa Claus. This is not going to destroy the fun of believing in “Old St. Nick”. Instead, it gives us a beautiful look of how God is sharing Himself in things we see every day – even in the kindness and generosity of Santa Claus.

I asked my 2 youngest kids if I should share this with book with you and give it as a prize and they were immediately shocked that I would consider not keeping this one for us to enjoy every Christmas. So, I guess that answers that question.

You may buy God Gave Us Christmas at Amazon or request it at your local library.

I received a copy of this book from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing for the purpose of this review.

  1. I would donate this book to our church library — it would be a GREAT addition to the children’s section! Thank you for the chance!
