You’ve heard that you only get one chance to make a first impression! I love going on new adventures and meeting new people, but I have a little secret to confess. I have been known to do some less than remarkable things when I get hungry, nervous or overly tired. SNICKERS® has asked the question on recent commercials “Who are you when You’re hungry?” And some of the stories I have seen are not a pretty sight. I have figured out a few ways to guarantee that I make the right first impression. Anyone want to guess what my #1 tip is going to be?

3 Tips to Make the Best First Impression
I have had too many experiences when I just wasn’t quite my typical self.
Have you heard the story about the husband who went looking for the milk and found that his wife had placed a bottle of window cleaner in the refrigerator? Yes, that was me!
Or how about the wife who went to dust the furniture and realized she had picked up the kitchen cleaner? But in my defense – both cans were yellow!
Or how about the story of the college student who was singing in the community wide televised choral presentation of Handel’s Messiah and fell out on live TV on the front row because she got too hot and hungry? You guessed it – that was me too!
Or how about the Mom who regularly has started supper preparations only to realize that she forgot to buy the main ingredient at the store? Oh yes! I confess. That’s me too!
And one more… How about the Mom who showed up for her daughter’s talent show with her garden shoes? No problem for this Mom. With a little help from her sister in law, a bottle of water and a paper towel, she was ready to get to the piano to accompany just in time and no one even noticed.
But before I take all the credit for these happenings, I must confess that I get this quite honestly from my Dad. Oh sure… he looks normal in this picture, but just ask us kids the stories of how Dad has been known to fall out on the floor when he has a combination of pressure points – heat, hunger, exhaustion or stress. We all know to make sure he has a quick candy bar or sandwich if we sense the big combo coming together in a perfect storm.
Tips to Make a good First Impression
If I have this problem when I get tired and hungry, I’m guessing there are others who also are worried about this happening to them! So how can I make sure that we don’t make the wrong first impression when we are attending SoFabUOTR in a few weeks? I’ve got it figured out!
One thing we’ll all be doing for sure when we are meeting people at the conference is exchanging business cards. I’m just going to make sure mine come ready to stave off any hunger or weirdness when we are sitting at the conference tables.
- Tape a SNICKERS® to your business cards.
- Put them in a box with a lid so you won’t be tempted to eat them before you need them! Good luck!
When you meet new people or find yourself in new situations, it’s easy to get nervous. But the thing each of us has to remember is that everyone is feeling jitterbugs in new circumstances! Some people cover their nerves better than others, but most people have nerves that can kick in when it’s time for new experiences.
There’s no need to compete for center stage or put on a false front. When you meet someone for the first time, just relax! Eat a SNICKERS®, drink a cup of coffee or listen to your favorite songs in the car. Don’t worry. Just relax and know that when you meet people for the first time, chances are they are just excited to get to know you!
What is your favorite SNICKERS® variety? Have you tried the SNICKERS® Extreme, Peanut Butter Squares, or SNICKERS® Almond? Enjoy your candy and make a great first impression!
