Easy DIY Pallet Compost Bin
I have had several compost systems over the years but have always wanted to have something that was a little more solid. Recently my husband and son found several pallets that were being discarded so they brought them home and built me a bin that should last for years and give me plenty of space to cultivate beautiful compost out of food and yard scraps. This project is super simple and very affordable.

Easy DIY Pallet Compost Bin
Materials:
- Five Pallets
- Wood screws
- Screwdriver
- Scrap wood pieces
Directions:
Position your pallets where you want to build your compost bin and check to make sure they are semi-level.
You can screw the pallets together directly or use small scrap pieces of wood as connectors. We chose to use scrap pieces to connect the pallets to give the compost bin a little more stability.
Position two pallets along the back with two more on either end and one in the middle to divide the bins.
Why two bins?
Our theory is that we will fill one bin completely this fall and then start filling the second bin. This will give time for the first bin to break down over the winter and will give us compost at two stages of completion. We use a lot of compost on the farm and I really don’t want to have to buy it anymore now that we have a place to start storing it ourselves.
Now it’s time to start filling the bins. Have you ever built a compost bin like this? Got any tips for making it successful? I’d love to hear!
Build a Compost Bin out of Lattice
A few years ago I used an old piece of lattice and zip ties to create this compost bin. It served its purpose well and cost me nothing.
