Many people love to get out on the water to enjoy some time in a boat. Some boats are small and get you just off the bank so you can go fishing, while other boats are large and let you explore huge bodies of water. Our family doesn’t go on alot of boating adventures, but we do enjoy being out near the water. We have taken tours on a historic riverboat, a dolphin cruise and hope to get the kids out on a fishing boat before too long. Americans everywhere are enjoying time out on the water and have discovered that boating is a great way to spend a summer afternoon.

The most classic boating memory I have is the first time my husband and I went on a canoe trip. This was about 22 years ago and we were still in dating mode. Neither of us knew much about canoes, but we were ready for a day on the water. Within minutes, we were in over our heads – quite literally.
The canoe hit a tree that had fallen across the water, flipped over and temporarily trapped us under the canoe. We were able to get out and swim to the surface but then the fun really began. The current caught the boat and sucked it to the bottom of the river. Now we were out of luck. My husband decided he had to find the canoe so he began diving down under the tree in search of our missing boat.
Not only did he find our canoe, but he found another canoe that had been trapped down under the river as well and a royal case of some kind of poison ivy. This canoe trip didn’t ruin our canoe adventure. We got back in the boat and finished our adventure. 20 years later and we are still going strong.

But according to recent surveys, 71% of U.S. boat owners have an annual household income less than $100,000 and 95 percent of boats in the U.S. are less than 26 feet—small boats taken by trailer to local bodies of water.

Being out on the water is a great way to give the family time outdoors in the sunshine and out on the water. You aren’t going to be playing electronics if you are on a boat and you will need to work together to make a great trip.
