Do you do alot of writing for various publications, magazines, newspapers or other sources? Over the past several years, I have started writing for sources other than just my blog and have found that it is easy to lose those links. But as a content creator, it is important that others can quickly reference examples of your writing in one easy location. That’s where a writing portfolio comes in handy. I have been a bit hit or miss about keeping my published articles page up to date. But now, I’ve discovered Contently. This is a free, easy option that lets you keep all your online writings in one place.
How to Create a Writing Portfolio with Contently
There are other options that will allow you to create a writing portfolio, but Contently is a great place to start. You can see an example of my writing portfolio on Contently by clicking here or on the image below.
Getting Started with Contently
Once you have created your account, you are ready to begin. Have you written for any mainstream publications? Search the list for the name.
If your publication is not found, then you can add the URL.
Personalize your profile. Add in a picture and a brief bio about you.
Build your portfolio by adding the URL of your publications. I have chosen to add a few of my blog links as an example of my writing style. Some people may have a different stance on whether blog articles are considered a part of your portfolio or not.
Edit your images and descriptions
Click on the word Edit to change out the default image and description.
Upload an image from your computer
Rearrange your board
Some writers prefer to keep their portfolio in date order; others may want to have their strongest post at the top. Just drag the box to place it in the order you prefer.
Edit your Profile
On the left side of the screen you will see the option to edit your profile. This is where you add in your social media networks, change your profile picture and edit your bio.
The more stories you add, the more your stats will grow.
Choose your theme. There are 2 themes to choose from. Dr Seuss will fill in some of the space with color blocks and the Hemingway option makes it a little cleaner.
My Contently portfolio is growing constantly. Since I love writing, this is a great way to keep things organized and my work out there for those looking for freelance writers.
Do you have a contently portfolio? I’d love to see your portfolio and learn from you!
