Cove Spring Park: Frankfort, Kentucky

Sometimes you have to drive miles away to find beautiful places that you have never seen, but other days you just have to look at a local park in a neighboring city. This past weekend, we took a road trip through some Kentucky counties and discovered a hidden gem in Frankfort, Kentucky. Cove Spring Park and Nature Preserve has something for everyone. You can enjoy this beautiful park with as little or as much effort as you decide to spend. It’s truly up to you.

Cove Spring Park: Frankfort, Kentucky

Cove Spring Park is located just minutes from downtown Frankfort and offers a great place for picnics, nature walks or even the opportunity to play in the creek.

You can use either of the covered picnic shelters or enjoy the benches and tables scattered around the park.

There is a nice sized parking area as well as restrooms that are conveniently located off to the side.

You can see the main waterfall as soon as you get out of your car. It really is that close. You simply walk over to the viewing area where you can enjoy Hurst Falls from a wooden deck and platform.

Cove Spring Park – Hurst Falls

This park/nature preserve consists of approximately 240 acres of wetlands, streams, springs, waterfalls, forested ravines and other natural and historic features. The park is located at the northern city limits off US 127/Holmes Street. The park is intended for activities such as walking, hiking, nature observation, environmental education, picnicking and other passive activities.

Off to the left of Hurst Falls, you can walk over to another beautiful pair of small waterfalls.

You can then walk around the meadow on a nice paved trail and enjoy the wildflowers.

There are more trails that we didn’t take the time to explore on this trip, but we know this will definitely be a place to return to. It is a beautiful place in nature that doesn’t require miles of hiking.

Real Life Tip: Cove Spring Park is accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. Many of the paths are paved and offer close up views of waterfalls and and nature.
