Celebrate Together When You’re Miles Apart
When it comes time to celebrate the special events and occasions in life, we all want to be together in person. But sometimes there are things that make it impossible to be present for these moments. That’s when it’s time to get a little creative and find ways to celebrate these occasions across the miles. Here are some great ways that my family has used to stay connected when life keeps us physically distant.

Celebrate Together When You’re Miles Apart
Heirloom Video Card
A few years ago my father-in-law celebrated his 70th birthday. Because of scheduling, we couldn’t all get together on the actual day so we decided to send a video card instead. Whether you are celebrating a wedding, or birthday, or want to send a memorial video, you can easily create a video card for the occasion.
Creating the video card is a simple process that can be done from your phone or on the computer.
- Go to Sendheirloom.com
- Type in your email address.
- Click the Add Video button
- Choose to Add Videos from this device.
- Select the videos that you want to include
- If you want to reorder your videos, just click on the video and move it where you want to place it.
- Preview your video and go through the final ordering steps.
- Wait while your video card is created and mailed to your recipient.
Now any time he wants to enjoy the birthday video from the family, all he has to do is open the card. There is even a recharging cord included so you can enjoy the card indefinitely.
Group Greetings
When my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the middle of the Covid shutdown, we knew we couldn’t have a big party but we still wanted to give their friends and family members a way to share their congratulatory wishes. Many people chose to mail personal cards but I still wanted to create a single card that everyone could sign.
Group Greeting lets you create an e-card that you can send to as many people as you choose. Each person can sign the same card and then it automatically gets sent to the recipient’s email on the date you choose. The recipient can then print the card from their own computer and enjoy the well-wishes from all their friends and family.
Creating a card is easy and affordable (only $4.99 each). There are hundreds of designs or you can choose to upload your own custom cover image.
Hospital Free Greeting cards
Did someone have a baby in a faraway city? Want to send an instant free card to say congratulations? Just do a quick search on the hospital website and see if they offer free greeting cards. Many hospitals offer a free service where you can create a quick card that the staff will print and deliver to the room during normal workday hours.
This is also a great way to send a quick card to someone who is dealing with sickness or having to spend time in the hospital.
Action idea: You can take 30 seconds and send a card to a child that you don’t know who is dealing with a sickness at Nationwide Children’s Hospitals. They will print the card and deliver it in person even though you don’t know their name.
Order a Birthday Box
When you can’t throw a party in person, order a birthday box and have it delivered.

Use Video Calls
When my friend wanted to celebrate her Mom’s special birthday, she invited all her friends to hop on a Zoom call and have a Brady Bunch style birthday party. Just create the event then share the link with as many friends as want to attend. You can even record the call and watch it as many times as you want.
Send a Gift Card
Gift cards are small and easy to mail. Pick up a card that means something special to the people in your life and help them celebrate.
Being together in person is always the first choice when it comes to celebrating special events, but when you can’t be together it’s nice to know there are options. Think outside the box and celebrate together even when you are miles apart.
