My kids love to play Minecraft. Personally, I don’t quite get it, but a world of blocks where you can build anything you want with your imagination is not necessarily a bad thing. The other night, my oldest son decided to show me how Minecraft can build absolutely anything. He wanted to convince me that building hobbies in Minecraft is a fun way to to share this game that he loves. How could I not appreciate that?
Building Hobbies in Minecraft
Typically when my kids build in creative mode, they work on building a castle, fort or a huge creature with multiple floors, rooms and features. But for me, he started out by building the word Hobbies. It was interesting to see him think through the process of building the vertical letters. Each block has to be built on top of another. Then he would knock out the block underneath to give it a rounded shape.Have you ever tried to create a vertical word? It’s harder than you think – especially the b!
Look closely at the H in Hobbies and you will see that he used book bricks to build that letter! Shows that he knows how much I love reading a good book!
Because my son knows how much I love the piano, he built a piano keyboard in just a couple minutes.
Another one of my favorite hobbies is working in my garden. He built a garden with a little fence around it to keep out the pigs and chickens.
Showing an interest in some of the kid’s games is not always easy. But it is so important that I know at least a little about what they are interested in – even if I do think the graphics are not that impressive. We enjoyed spending the time together and I loved having him show me what all he can do in the world of Minecraft.
