I grew up in a house with hardwood floors – no carpet. That translates to the fact that I absolutely hate to dustmop. When we realized that our new house was 100% laminate wood floors, I was pretty worried that I would have to buy the dreaded dustmop and spend everyday working to get the dust and the trash off my floors. Fortunately, there is a great new option for me and my family that does most of the work for me. Enter the bObsweep“> robotic vacuum for me to review.
bObsweep: Cleaning Floors in a New Way
My family couldn’t believe when they came home from school and saw this little round red robot named bOb sweeping and vacuuming our floors. We have been testing it for several weeks and I have to say that I am officially convinced that “bOb” is one of my best friends in the fight to keep my floors clean and dust free.
Here’s how it works: You plug the charger station into the wall and face it outward so “bOb” can find his connection. Each morning after the kids are off to school, I do a quick run through my house making sure there are no foreign objects in the way that will keep bOb from doing it’s job. I pick up dirty socks, put shoes away, pick up the small area rugs by the back door and make sure there are no charging cords that have been dropped on the floor. bOb can work around some of these things, but seems to work best when I do my part first.
Then I push start and let the bObsweep go to work. One thing you have to realize about bOb is that it doesn’t work in one direction like I do when I am vacuuming. bOb works in circles and takes it’s own path. I let the bObsweep work from room to room while I start laundry, clean the dishes or do the other household chores that start off my day. Periodically I check on the bObsweep to make sure it hasn’t gotten stuck under a bed or chair.
Most of the time the bObsweep unit will function exactly as it is supposed to. Typically it can maneuver over carpet edges, door facings or around furniture. But I have found that it does occasionally need to be moved out of a corner if there are extra cords or distractions.
What do you get when you purchase the bObsweep?
Each unit comes with its charging station, extra cleaning pad, brush, comb to clear out hair and strings from the brush and a remote control. The unit has the brush that spins around to help it detect furniture and walls. One of the things I was concerned about was how hard it would bump into the wall or the furniture. But it is able to detect structures and maneuver around them. There are little pads you can attach if you want a little extra protection for your walls and baseboards.
bOb can easily clean carpets, vinyl or laminate flooring. There is a UV light on the bottom of the unit that helps clean the floor while it is picking up hair and debris. I have to admit that I didn’t think it could actually clean the dust and grass from our floors, but have been pleasantly surprised at how much it picks up. There is a dust bin that slides out so you can empty the trash and get the bOb unit back to work.
