Ways to Keep Memories

We all have those times in our life that we want to remember – weddings, anniversaries, travels, births, deaths – but what can you do to commemorate these events, to remember them long into the future?

Scrapbook It

It’s something that everyone means to get around to, but scrapbooking is an art unto itself, and can take a lot of time. But when you actually have the chance to go through and really commemorate an event – placing photos with funny quotes or ticket stubs, it offers you time to reflect on your experiences that you may not have otherwise.

Plus, scrapbooking is a great way to remember the individual events of a family vacation – and also to capture your family dynamic at that time, at the spirit of your children, what they were interested in, anything of that sort – not just through photos, but through things you remembered them saying or what they wanted to see.

Frame It

If you want to capture a moment or an event in your life, but don’t have the time or opportunity to sit down and catalog everything in a scrapbook, you can always take a salient object that speaks to the entire event and get it framed, either in a shadowbox or matted in a standard frame.

You’ll find this most easy to do with invitations – and a lot of newlyweds will make a shadowbox of their wedding invitation along with the boutonniere or bouquet and a few other souvenirs from the wedding, but it’s also a great project for christening invitations or travel souvenirs.

Keep It

We all have old baby clothes or toys from when we were a child – and when we dig those out of storage and actually sit with them, it’s amazing what memories come up, isn’t it? Whether it’s a stuffed animal we got from our (now deceased) grandfather or our favorite blanket as a child, there are some things that just can’t be parted with for their sentimental value.

One of those, for most women, is their wedding dress. Even though it is a dress that is only worn once, it is a dress that has had a profound impact on their life, for better or worse – and there are a number of companies that specialize in preserving wedding dresses so that they remain pristine over the years.

Charm It

This is a trend that has gained popularity (again) in recent years – but charm bracelets! They aren’t just for little girls anymore – and the great thing about charm brackets (if they are your kind of jewelry) is that is charm becomes associated for you with a specific event or a specific time or a specific person in your life.

With a charm bracelet, you pretty much have your life history on your wrist – which can both be a good thing and a bad thing – but if you’re the kind of person that like to carry around your memories and keep them close, then a charm bracelet could be just what you’re looking for.
