Family Hiking at Lake Cumberland

Recently my family took an afternoon to do some hiking at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park in Russell County, Kentucky. The park offers boating, fishing, dining and several nice family hikes including the Baugh Branch Trail.

Family Hiking at Lake Cumberland

Our family has hiked on many of hiking trails in Kentucky, but we had never explored the Lake Cumberland area. We picked the Baugh Branch Trail for our recent winter hike.

The Baugh Branch Trail is easily accessible from the main road. You will see the sign and the pull off parking area on the right side of the main road.

The trail is well maintained and easy to follow. It offers beautiful overlooks and scenic views of the river as you wind your way back to the end of the trail. I would consider this a moderate hike with no strenuous spots or dangerous drop offs. There is a fairly steep climb at the end of the trail leading to the overlook.

1.6 miles, linear trail, trailhead located 3.6 miles back from park entrance, level terrain and easy grade, end of trail is steep, leads up to lake overlook and Baughs Branch

The cedar trees are beautiful as you hike out to the point.

When you finish the Baugh Branch Trail hike, take a few minutes and drive over to the resort and enjoy the views of the marina.
