It may only be September 1, but many people are already up to their creative eyeballs thinking about Halloween costumes. If you have kids with big imaginations, then you are probably going to be asked to do a DIY Halloween Costume. Here are a few of the things we have created over the past few year. Captain Jack’s Hair made out of yarn!

One year my son wanted to be Captain Jack, from Pirates of the Caribbean. I don’t like buying a costume, so I did some research and realized we could create his own costume for almost no money. The biggest concern for my son as the hair. He didn’t realize I knew how to make a yarn wig! We had to make sure the hair turned out cool enough for the greatest pirate captain ever – Captain Jack! All three of my kids were quite impressed with how I was able to turn a skein of black yarn into an impressive pirates wig.

My son wanted to be Captain America for Halloween. We decided to make the costume. We’ve never made a Captain America Costume, but we have created pirates, ninjas, bumblebees and Hermione. I was super excited to see what we could come up with little sewing and less money.

My oldest son decided he wanted to be Ash Ketchum from Pokemon. So I looked at the costume and figured it didn’t look too hard. Sure, son! We can do that! Little did I know it would take a few hours more than I had planned. But before the night was over, I had one happy son and I felt satisfied that I had done a pretty good job.     I have started seeing Halloween costumes and decorations in my local stores already and it seems earlier than ever this year. Thanks for the ideas – I’m thinking of planning a themed play this year for church and might need to makes one costumes.

    Awesome costumes! We try not to use “out-of-the-box” costumes. We like to assemble our own unique versions of characters :)
