Tic Tac Toe for all Seasons
Tic Tac Toe is a classic game that has been around since the Egyptians or Romans. Wikipedia states that the games grid markings have been found chalked all over Rome. I wasn’t around to enjoy the classic game back in Roman times, but I know that my kids enjoy a good game of tic tac toe. People have been able to find ways to enjoy Tic Tac Toe for all seasons. Here’s some of the favorites ideas I found.
Tic Tac Toe for all seasons
Tic Tac Toe is traditionally played on a white piece of paper using pen or pencils to mark the x’s and o’s. But many people enjoy it in different ways.
At the Doctors Office
I have to admit that my family have often played Tic Tac Toe on the white paper that covers the benches in the waiting rooms of doctor’s office. After each patient leaves, the nurses always roll up the paper and throw it away. Especially when the kids were small, we would be known to play some serious Tic Tac Toe while waiting for the doctor. The kids would think it was fun to write on the big space. It was a novel experience that made waiting much more doable.
One of our favorite variations is Super Tic Tac Toe. We cover an entire piece of paper with a grid. Then we take turns going back and forth till all the squares are filled with X’s and O’s.
How to score
Rows of 3 = 1 point
Rows of 4 = 2 points
Rows of 5 = 3 points
This version takes longer and you never have to worry about the cat winning the game! Try it! You might find that you love Super Tic Tac Toe!
Tic Tac Toe with Stones
If your family loves to be out in your garden, why not make an Outdoor Garden Tic Tac Toe? While doing some searching on the internet, I found this really cool way to enjoy your favorite game outside. Erica from Northwest Edible Life gives a great step by step tutorial showing you how to take some common materials and create a tic tac toe game for your garden.
Tic Tac Toe at the Beach
If you are planning a day outside with the kids, plan ahead so you can enjoy Tic Tac Toe at the beach. I love this idea that Amy, mom of 2, came up with! Click here or on the image to get full directions! This variation is super cheap and very portable.
So how do you like to play Tic Tac Toe? Got any fun memories to share with this classic game? I’d love to hear!
Thanks to Amy and Erica for giving permission to use both of their images.

These are some great ideas. Love the doctors office one–I will remember that for sure next time we are waiting.
